How ShopThing auctions work

How it works

Bidding on a Chanel bag from a Tokyo auction house while sitting on your couch might sound complicated. It isn't. Here's how it works — and what we handle for you behind the scenes.

  1. 01

    Explore live auctions

Every day we open a curated selection of lots from Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto auction houses. Each lot includes condition notes, dimensions, and full provenance — no surprises.

  2. 02

    Submit your bid

Place a quick bid or set a max bid and we'll bid on your behalf. Your card is pre-authorized, and all fees — including auction, duties to USA, and shipping — are included upfront. No surprises beyond sales tax.

We'll email you if you're outbid so you can decide whether to come back
  3. 03

    Seamless checkout

If you win, checkout happens automatically using the payment method linked to your account, so there's nothing else you need to do. Your order is instantly confirmed and an order confirmation email is sent right away, making the entire process fast, simple, and hassle-free from win to delivery.

All sales are final once bids are placed
  4. 04

    White-glove delivery

Each piece ships from Japan to our authentication center, then is carefully packed and sent to you with full tracking. This process typically takes 2–3 weeks to ensure safe, verified delivery.

    Guaranteed authenticity

Before anything ships, our authenticators inspect the piece, photograph it from every angle, and match it against the maker's database. Anything that fails is refunded in full — no questions, no restocking fee.

Why we're allowed in

These auction houses have been resellers-only for fifty years. ShopThing earned a seat by buying and authenticating thousands of pieces — quietly, consistently — until they started saving us a paddle. We turned that paddle over to you.
